When first elected, I
promised to be a strong voice for you, the taxpayers; to advocate for open and
efficient government, and promote fiscally responsible spending. I have worked hard to keep my promises and
stand on my record. During my tenure:
- We have worked diligently on improving services through efficiencies and consolidating offices to create a “one stop” customer service approach.
- We have focused our investments towards public
safety and transportation:
- Replacing
an aging and undersized jail
- Built
and equipped a modern 9-1-1 dispatch center with a properly sized and capable
800 megahertz metropolitan public safety communications system
- Developed
a jointly funded and operated Regional Public Safety Training Facility
- Increased
our investments in transportation by:
- Adding nearly $5 million a year to our overall
spending on road construction and maintenance projects;
- Developing a unified transit management plan,
opened our first transit station, and creating express transit services for
Scott County commuters.
- Provided proper attention to environmental
concerns and maintaining our natural resources through the establishment of the
Water Management Organization and the acquisition of park lands – through joint
funding from Scott County, the Metropolitan
Council and the State.
- Maintained appropriate fiscal restraint through
focused spending and increased efficiencies that have:
- Moved
Scott County
from one of the highest to one of the lowest taxed
counties in the State of Minnesota. (79th overall of 87 counties )
- Placed
Scott County as the lowest in terms of per
capita spending on its operations when compared to any of the other seven
metropolitan counties.
- Working to improve public safety, law enforcement,
transportation, health and human services, libraries, and legislative issues at
the state, regional, and county levels
- Over $44 Million in road projects to improve safety and
reduce traffic congestion were completed in my districtCounty Board unanimously
rejected $20 excise tax on motor vehicles and additional .25% sales tax
authorized by legislature for metro countiesOpposed “trust” application of Mdewakanton Sioux Community
to remove 776 acres of land from county tax base, which would increase taxes
for Scott County tax payers
- Partnerships, collaboration, and sharing of resources
throughout Scott County resulted in:
- Regional Training Facility for law
enforcement, firefighters, and emergency responders
