I
support fiscally responsible spending that limits taxes.
From my first election to today my primary emphasis has been on providing effective, efficient and responsive government. Our rapid growth in recent years present both challenges and opportunities for the county and its residents. The issue of taxes and spending must be an absolute priority for local government. With the struggle that most citizens are facing in these challenging economic times the need to control spending and limit taxes is readily apparent. I understand that high property taxes create an unfriendly environment for new businesses and make it difficult for families and senior citizens to afford their homes. I have always been a strong proponent of fiscally responsible spending. My basic philosophy is simple – local government officials can best determine taxing and spending levels for their communities – government decisions are best when made locally. Specifically I believe: 1. Government resources must focus on core services – public safety, public health, transportation, environment and natural resources. 2. Public and private collaboration and sharing of resources in the delivery of service must be pursued because it reduces cost while providing greater benefits to individuals and communities 3. State mandated services that are not funded and mandated maintenance of effort requirements place additional and unwarranted burden on local taxpayers and should be eliminated. 4. Flexibility in delivery of services increases efficiency and effectiveness. Local autonomy in establishing service levels and priorities is a must. Taxes are an unavoidable expense that everyone expects to pay; however, it is important that the monies raised via taxes not be wasted or spent on projects that are unnecessary or provide little benefit to most people. When first elected, I promised to be a strong voice for you, the taxpayers; advocate for open and efficient government; and, promote fiscally responsible spending. During my tenure:
These statistical facts have not occurred by accident. They are the result of hard work by the Board of Commissioners and the County’s staff. I have worked hard to limit spending and to keep my promises to you the residents of my district; if re-elected, I will continue to be a strong advocate for you. |
